The
nutrients in PhysioLogics' Liver Maintenance
Formula combine specially selected herbs with
alpha lipoic acid, to help support healthy liver
function. These combined constituents have a
long history of providing antioxidant
protection, balancing the inflammatory response,
and supporting continual liver repair and
healthy bile production.
The liver's primary
function is to neutralize toxic substances that
enter the body. It also secretes bile which aids
fat digestion – breaking it down – into
smaller globules.
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA)
functions as both a fat and water-soluble
antioxidant. Found naturally in the body, ALA
can help regenerate and recycle glutathione,
vitamin C, and vitamin E levels. Preliminary
studies show that maintaining healthy ALA levels
can enhance the body's detoxifying and
antioxidant capabilities.
The herbs included in
Liver Maintenance Formula, including dandelion
and milk thistle, also promote healthy liver
function. Milk thistle enhances the liver's
detoxifying ability and contributes antioxidant
properties as well.
Dandelion root helps
stimulate bile flow. Bile is a highly acidic
substance produced in the liver that breaks down
fat and cholesterol. Dandelion also supports the
proper function of the gallbladder and liver –
resulting in a greater ability of these organs
to support digestion and cleanse the blood.
Other herbs in the
formula such as picrorhiza kurroa and
artichoke have been shown in preliminary studies
to have a possible regenerative and protective
effect on the liver. Extracts of boldo may have
protective and antioxidant properties as well.
