Boost glutathione levels and enhance antioxidant protection

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) is a more stable form of the conditionally-essential amino acid L-cysteine. The body uses l-cysteine to produce glutathione (GSH), an important polypeptide produced by the body to fight free radicals. Glutathione is considered to be one of the body's most important endogenous antioxidants.

Glutathione levels in the blood and tissue tend to decrease with age, as demonstrated in a study reported in the Journal of Laboratory Clinical Medicine. This study examined males and females between the ages of 20 and 94 and found an increased incidence of low blood glutathione levels in elderly subjects. In addition, a study reported in the British Journal of Clinical Epidemiology found, in a community-based study of the elderly, that higher glutathione levels were related to higher levels of physical health in the subjects.

As the body ages, its ability to digest and absorb protein can become compromised, so NAC may have important benefits for the elderly. NAC also helps maintain glutathione and related antioxidant levels that can be diminished by stress or exercise.

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine supports:

  • GSH and GSH-related antioxidant levels
  • Reduced cholesterol oxidation at 1200 mg daily
  • A stable form of l-cysteine*
Directions:
